BERGANS redesign the vatlaw / Vi Skredder Verden

This student group project, shortlisted in the Student Category at the New York Festivals Advertising Awards 2022, creatively tackles sustainability by blending repairs with art and activism.

Norwegians own an average of 359 garments, yet only one-fifth are regularly used. Each year, we discard or donate 11 kg of clothing per person, often opting to replace rather than repair. Yet the longer outdoor clothing and gear stay in use, the smaller their environmental footprint becomes. Inspired by this, the campaign encourages repairing Bergans products to extend their lifespan and reduce waste.

Kreative Konsept: VI SKREDDER VERDEN / REDESIGN THE VATLAW reimagines repairs as art. Leveraging Norway’s VAT exemption for artwork, Bergans tailors formed an art collective called Systua (“The Sewing Room”), officially registered as an art enterprise. Every repaired Bergans item is marked with a patch and a unique code linked to a blockchain, transforming each piece into a physical NFT artwork—making repairs not only functional but also exclusive and potentially more valuable.

To push the message further, Bergans would launch a campaign to advocate for systemic change: a reduction in VAT for sustainable services. An online petition allowed participants to add their signature, with each signature converted into a stitch in a digital embroidery. Once complete, the embroidery will physically be produced and sent to the Norwegian government with the message:

KUTT MOMS PÅ BÆREKRAFTIGE TJENESTER! (“Cut VAT on sustainable services!”)

This campaign creatively reframes sustainability by turning repairs into symbols of value, artistry, and advocacy, demonstrating how small actions can contribute to lasting change.

Sneakers in wonderland & clean product photos

This project is a fictional campaign created as a student project for the Norwegian sneaker retailer Stress. The focus was on crafting a unique visual universe to promote three sneaker models ahead of their summer launch. The campaign concept, "Sneaker in Wonderland," draws inspiration from Alice in Wonderland, presenting a playful and imaginative approach that emphasizes freedom, adventure, and discovery.

The creative direction leverages whimsical imagery where sneakers are showcased in surreal settings—perched among giant mushrooms or placed at a quirky tea party. This concept resonated strongly with the post-pandemic sentiment of rediscovering life and embracing newfound freedom. By stepping away from traditional spring/summer campaigns filled with bright colors and influencer-centric visuals, this approach helped the brand stand out while remaining relevant and engaging.

The creative execution highlights the sneakers while showcasing the brand’s ability to think outside the box, using playful visuals that not only captured attention but also inspired fresh, imaginative merch and engaging social media content. Complementing these visuals, clean, professional product photos with white backgrounds were created for the online store, ensuring consistency with Stress's established minimalist visual identity. Together, these elements formed a cohesive campaign that celebrated creativity and adventure.
